Album Review by Baylee Avery

As a Houstonian, I’m always looking for something new and fresh straight out of the local music scene. There's always that one hidden treasure chest that displays the perfect sound in the form of gold when you open it—and in today's case, that’s the Primaries.

In July 2025, the band released their EP, “Nothing’s Wrong,” and boy, is it a gem of an album or what?

The album starts with “Killjoy,” which opens with the ring of a phone, followed by the sweet sounds of the electric guitar to introduce us to the band. The sound is reminiscent of the rock era of the ‘70s, especially the punk era. What comes to mind are bands like The Cure and Echo & The Bunnymen, which give us an idea of what we should expect throughout this EP.

“Nodalong” has a slower sound that is very captivating, especially with the amazing background vocals. Imagine owning this EP on vinyl and laying down on the ground with the sweet sounds of this song playing on your record player. That’s the kind of vibe to chase when listening to this song. It feels as if you’re in a music time machine of some sorts, one that transports you back to the ‘70s.

“Thumbs Up”? If we want to get personal here, this is absolutely my favorite off the EP and such a standout. I don’t mean to overuse the words “electrifying” or “captivating,” but this song is a mix of both of those words. Everything about this song is a perfect rock ‘n’ roll recipe that you’ll just want to consume again and again and never get tired of.

When listening to “Aloner,” it’s easy to imagine this band in a ‘70s/’80s/’90s setting. Specifically, I’m picturing the ‘90s in Seattle…and everyone would be Sleepless all night long as they jam out to this banger. (If you catch my drift.) This track is smooth, it’s exciting, it’s exhilarating, it’s everything.

Now we move onto the EP’s final track, “Blah Blah Blah (Nice Talk),” and honestly? What a way to close this amazing EP. Put this track on if you REALLY want to rock out and vibe out. It makes you feel like you’re driving around with the top down, your hair blowing in the wind, wearing thrifted sunglasses while this blasts in your car.

Overall, Primaries? They ROCK. This EP contains everything a rock ‘n’ roll lover could ever want in this day and age.
