Plastic Future’s new EP “Freaks Out,” released on February 27, 2026, encompasses joy, epic guitar shreds, and all of the fun that comes along with being in a band with your friends. The drop was celebrated with an action packed live performance in the Axelrad attic by members Justin Blandford (bass, vocals), Ned Gayle (guitar, vocals), Jack Gordon (drums), and Billy Trim (guitar, vocals). The project, which is the band's second release, was a journey in solidifying their sound and exploring what excited them. Trim describes the EP as “a fun collection of dumb rock songs with riffs to spare,” or “music to summon beers and bongs to.” “Our classic combo is food, heartache, paranoia, and good times,” he adds.

“Freaks Out” kicks off with “Walk It Out,” a song about “knowing when it's time to create space in order to maintain empathy,” according to Trim. “It’s about recognizing that some things are only beautiful because they'll eventually end.” The track is followed by “Fried Rice,” which has all of the ingredients of a punk rock hit with mentions of mushrooms, peppers, and of course, eating leftovers. You may find yourself screaming the chorus alongside the band—it’s hard not to. “FRIED RICE!”
Third on the EP is “No One Freak Out.” In speaking about the track, Gayle shares, “We played a show a year or two ago where everything just kept going wrong. Stuff that was totally out of the promoter's hands—like the bar only had like 12 beers for the entire night! This song is an ode to playing in a small band and dealing with so much crap just to be able to yell with your friends for 25 minutes. I know I say ‘this is the worst show’ in the song but that was actually my favorite show we've played as a band. Total blast!”
Track four is “Welcome to the Show,” depicting how the band fractures their identities to suit the expectations of different audiences. The EP concludes with “Mold,” described by Trim as a “cynical and satirical take on the state of the world.” He adds, “I don't set out to be pessimistic when I write, but sometimes it's funnier that way.”
Plastic Future officially launched in 2024 following years of on and off jams. Their first EP, "Enjoy the Taste of Your Plastic Future,” came out in 2024. “Freaks Out” was recorded and mixed by Ramzi Beshara at Central Sound Recording and was mastered at KBP House of Sound. The cover artwork was created by Matt Kast. In speaking about what’s next for the band, Gayle shares, “More songs about food! Maybe a soup song coming in the near future...also looking forward to working on the visual side of this band. I'd love to shoot some music videos. Is it against the rules to shoot a video for a song that's on your first EP? Readers...please advise!”
