On August 3rd, Solar Flare Music Festival marked the start of a new tradition for the Houston music scene. Hosted by Houston Music Classifieds, this festival featured 16 of the best musical artists in Houston, as well as an array of local artisans and vendors. As hundreds of people gathered at the Continental Club for this event, the feeling of community within the local scene was stronger than ever.
“HMC is bringing community back in a big way,” says Marley Moon, one of Solar Flare’s performers.
“The energy I got from the crowd was electric! Everyone was so happy to be there…and it was probably the most organized show I’ve ever played. It makes my heart warm knowing the future of Houston festivals is in [HMC’s] loving, safe hands,” she says.
“It was one of the best nights of music I’ve personally been to in Houston,” adds one attendee, Reef the Rabbit. “Everything just went so smoothly and beautifully, and I really loved the communal nature of the audience…everyone was so engaged and supportive!”
It’s safe to say that despite being spread across two stages and an outdoor market space, the sense of unity left a lasting impression on attendees.
“It was really heartwarming to be surrounded by a community of fellow creatives who lift each other up and empower each other,” says attendee Kiah Green. “I love the local live music scene, and HMC really creates a home for everyone involved in it.”
With a lineup featuring performers at all different stages of their careers, Solar Flare showcased a diverse range of artists. “HMC has done such a great job introducing the scene to its local talents,” says well-loved performer Sergio Trevino (“Buxton”), “but Solar Flare really took it up to the next level.”
“Every single artist brought their A-game,” adds Camille, who wow-ed the audience in her first official gig. “The lineup! The merchandise! The market stalls! I already hear people talking about next year.”
And next year can’t come soon enough!
